Mars 2025 sustainability plans

Mars believe the world we want tomorrow, which starts with how they do business today. That’s why they are rethinking their approaches to packaging, because there is no such thing as a sustainable product in unsustainable packaging.

There are deep concerns about the impact of packaging waste on land and in the ocean.

Lots of products are wrapped in plastic packaging and most of this packaging is not recycled, which means a lot of it ends up cluttering up the environment. This is not acceptable and Mars are committed to addressing it, even if it means redesigning much of the existing packaging.

2025 Sustainable Plastic Packaging Plans

·       100% of our plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable

·       25% reduction in virgin plastic use

·       10 reuse programs that test new business models

·       30% average recycled content in our plastic packaging

·       Recycling guidance for consumers in all major markets

·       Eliminate PVC (2020)

To strive towards this, by 2025 Mars plan to reduce virgin plastic use by 25% and for 100% of our plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable.

Mars are rethinking packaging by reducing packaging that isn’t needed and also redesigning the packaging that is, and also investing to close the loop.

Mars is already the largest corporate investor in anti-littering education programs in the UK. They also support the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ Keep It, Bin It national anti-littering campaign. This supports an initiative seeking to make littering culturally unacceptable within a generation, by encouraging changes in attitude and behaviours among young people
