Vegan Galaxy bars now available!

Mars will be launching a vegan version of the best selling Galaxy bar in the UK. This is a first for a mainstream confectionery company to offer the public a plant based alternative to milk chocolate.

The new bar will be certified by the vegan society, and will be available in a choice of 3 flavours. This includes smooth orange, caramel, sea salt, and caramelised hazelnut. It will go on sale online and in stores from Monday 18th November.

As you may know, dark chocolate (when no milk or cream is added) is ‘accidentally’ vegan. Milk chocolate is more of a challenge to replicate because of its dairy content and unique creamy taste.

A lot of chocolate products also do not carry a certified vegan label due to high risk cross contamination in factories.

Mars are the UK’s second-largest confectionery brand and have said it has taken more than six months to reformulate its best-selling chocolate bar. This has involved replacing dairy with hazelnut paste and rice syrup in its vegan formula.

“The taste of Galaxy has not changed in the nearly 60 years since it was launched. We wanted to retain the classic smooth and creamy taste and texture without any compromise.”

It is also Mars’ first UK confectionery product to be wrapped in compostable film packaging. It is made from wood fibre and breaks down in home composting in a few months while the outer card sleeve is widely recyclable.
